About the role

The Pre-Kindergarten Teaching Assistant at Harlem Children's Zone (HCZ) Gems is a crucial member of the team, responsible for supporting the Lead Teacher in delivering high-quality education to 160 young scholars. This role plays a vital part in preparing children for kindergarten and beyond.

Responsibilities

• Support the Lead Teacher in lesson delivery and student learning
• Help students achieve grade-level standards while maintaining high academic and personal expectations
• Manage the classroom in the teacher's absence and substitute in other classrooms as needed
• Enforce school policies on student conduct and discipline, ensuring a focused learning environment
• Aid in student arrival, dismissal, and transitions
• Engage in activities outside the classroom and contribute to program planning
• Address behavioral and emergency situations following school policies
• Monitor and report students' academic, physical, and emotional well-being
• Collect and submit data in a timely manner

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or related field
• Valid New York State Teaching Assistant Certification (or in the process of obtaining certification within 30 days of hire)

What You'll Do

Support the Lead Teacher in lesson delivery and student learning, help students achieve grade-level standards, manage the classroom in the teacher's absence, enforce school policies, assist with student arrival, dismissal, and transitions, engage in activities outside the classroom, address behavioral and emergency situations, monitor and report students' well-being, collect and submit data, attend staff meetings and supervisory conferences.

Schedule

Monday - Friday, 7:40am - 4:00pm and 10:00am-6:00pm (rotating schedule)

$45,000 - $50,000 annually
