About the role
Under the direction of the lead teacher, the Teaching Assistant provides support with the educational goals and implementation of the Department’s values and aims, promoting purposeful exploration towards the creation of visual expressions. This position facilitates the daily and annual routines of the program while establishing a safe and congenial environment for students, faculty, staff, and the broader community.
Responsibilities
- Loading, unloading, and firing of electric and gas kilns
- Formulating glazes
- Recycling of clay with the use of a vacuum pugmill
- Organizing and inventorying ceramic materials
- Performing minor repairs or adjustments to tools and equipment as needed
- Assisting students with assignments
- Assisting teachers in delivering curriculum
- Fostering creativity and a sense of community
- Preparing the studio to be a safe, efficient, and friendly working environment
Requirements
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor of Fine Arts or related program (completion preferred)
- Experience with teaching high school students preferred
- Ability to inspire trust and confidence, exercise patience, and motivate students
- Ability to work collaboratively and cooperatively with others
- Solid professional and personal ethics: models respect, honesty, dependability, and integrity
- Demonstrated passion for art, teaching, and learning
Schedule
9-month school year (2026-2027), Monday–Friday. Hours vary between 6:00 AM – 4:00 PM based on operational needs.
Pay
Hourly rate: $20.00/hour.
