Teaching Assistant

Full-time position at Wende Correctional Facility in Alden, NY, as part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS).

About the role

Under the general supervision of a fully qualified teacher, you will perform duties related to providing direct instructional service to students.

Responsibilities

• Utilize suggested techniques, lesson plans, tests, and teaching aids developed by a fully qualified teacher.
• Instruct learners individually or in groups to convey specific and limited subject matter.
• Reinforce subject matter previously taught by guiding pupils through prescribed and frequently repetitive learning exercises.
• Administer, proctor, and correct tests.
• Prepare training aids and utilize technology and computers as part of the learning environment.
• Maintain group control in the classroom.
• Accompany learners on field trips or special activities.

Requirements

You must possess one of the following certificates issued by the New York State Education Department:

• Level 3 Teaching Assistant Certificate, or
• Pre-Professional Teaching Assistant Certificate, or
• Continuing Certificate as a Teaching Assistant, or
• Provisional, Initial, Permanent, or Professional Teacher Certificate.

Requirements for Continued Employment: Possession of one of the above certificates is necessary for continued employment. Loss of certification will result in termination.

Pay

$40,720 - $52,413 per year.
