Teaching Assistant

Position Details

Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:15 am - 4:30 pm
Summer schedule: Shortened academic day with time off in July and August
Location: Sonia Shankman Orthogenic School, Chicago, IL

Responsibilities

• Provide direct support to elementary or high school aged students in the classroom
• Work alongside teachers and other staff members to create a positive, inclusive learning environment
• Assist with academic instruction and classroom management
• Support students with emotional disabilities and/or autism
• Provide individualized academic support and promote social-emotional growth
• Implement strategies that combine strong curriculum and clinical insight to support each student's unique needs

Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree (preferably in counseling or education)
• Illinois State Certification, Type 39 (or willingness to obtain within 90 days)
• Experience working with students with emotional disabilities or autism (preferred)
