Teaching Assistant

About the role

Join our AoPS Academy as a Math Teaching Assistant! You will support instruction, help students grasp complex concepts, and create an engaging, collaborative classroom environment.

Responsibilities

• Assist instructors with company-created curriculum and materials, helping advanced students grasp complex concepts.
• Work one-on-one with students during class activities and provide additional help when needed.
• Help maintain an organized learning environment and assist in managing up to 16 students.
• Assist with grading and providing constructive feedback on student work.
• Connect with students and staff members to encourage their learning journey and academic growth.
• Help create an environment that promotes critical thinking and academic curiosity.

Requirements

• Must be 16 years old or older.
• Possess strong math skills with the ability to help students navigate advanced concepts.
• Experience with or interest in working with younger students strongly preferred.
• Exceptional written and spoken communication.
• Positive and encouraging attitude that helps students feel comfortable asking questions.
• Detail-oriented and organized.
• Familiarity with the AoPS curriculum is a plus but not required.
• Prior teaching experience or education coursework is not required.
• Must be located in San Mateo or the greater area and able to commute to our campus.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the US; sponsorship (including STEM-OPT and H-1B) is not available.

Schedule

This is an afterschool program with classes in the evenings and on weekends. Candidates must be available to teach during weekday after-school hours (as early as 4pm) and/or on weekends.

• Minimum initial commitment of about 3 hours per week for each assigned class.
• Each course meets once per week for 1 hour 45 minutes.
• Example schedule: Honors Math 1 – Tuesdays from 4-5:45pm.

Pay

Hourly rate: $20.00 - $20.63.
