About the Role

Plans and implements an instructional program in Career Technology Education (CTE) and provides related educational services for students in a skills-based learning environment. Manages student behavior, assesses and evaluates student achievement, and modifies instructional activities as required to prepare students with the academic, critical thinking, computer technology, workplace readiness, and technical skills essential for careers in Education and Teaching.

Serves as a CTE classroom teacher in a high school (grades 9 through 12), teaching single or multi-grade level classes that may be subject-oriented, skill-focused, or specialty-focused. Supervises classroom, laboratory, or field experiences, including off-site settings such as apprenticeships and internships. Collaborates with staff and post-secondary institutions to develop and maintain career pathways for certification, internships, externships, apprenticeships, licensure, employment, or further education.

Responsibilities

• Instructs students in the knowledge and skills required for a specific occupation or occupational field using lectures, discussions, audiovisual presentations, laboratory, shop, and field studies.
• Plans and implements appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, and materials, including multimedia and computer technology.
• Develops, adapts, modifies, and individualizes educational materials and strategies to meet student needs within the Baltimore City curriculum framework.
• Prepares students to sit for and pass aligned industry certification exams, including ParaPro and Praxis Core.
• Ensures the classroom and instructional environment are safe, healthy, and conducive to learning, with materials in good condition and accessible to students.
• Assesses student abilities and progress, maintaining documentation for institutional and individual reporting.
• Communicates instructional expectations and student progress to students and parents through written and oral means.
• Manages student behavior in instructional and non-instructional settings, intervening to control and modify disruptive behavior as needed.
• Maintains accurate and complete student records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations.
• Enforces administration policies and rules governing students.
• Participates in in-service, staff development activities, and staff meetings as required.
• Coordinates instructional activities and collaborates with school and non-school-based professionals to maximize learning opportunities.
• Leads student experiences in Career Technical Student Organizations, internships, and apprenticeships.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in Education, Teaching, Special Education, Early Childhood Education, School Administration, Curriculum and Instruction, or a closely related field.
• Three or more years of experience in instructional leadership or classroom instruction.
• Valid Maryland teaching license.
• Eligibility for certification in Professional and Technical Education by the Maryland State Department of Education.
• Minimum of three years of successful classroom instruction experience.
• Completion of the TAM Summer Professional Development Leadership Institute or an approved alternative prior to teaching.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience or familiarity with Educators Rising.
• Experience supporting or supervising work-based learning experiences such as internships and apprenticeships.
• Possession of ParaPro certification.
