About the role

Under direction, through individual and group instruction, assists pupils to fulfill their capacities for mental, physical, emotional and social growth; uses teaching techniques appropriate to stimulate their abilities and interests; uses specialized materials, equipment and instructional procedures as necessary to meet the individual needs of blind or low-vision pupils.

Requirements / Qualifications

  • Education and Experience: Bachelor of Arts Degree from an accredited college or university
    California Teaching Credential authorizing performance of service with programs for the visually impaired
  • Possess specialized techniques and skills: pertinent to working with the visually impaired, such as braille reading and writing, training in use of various technological devices and optical aids
  • Background and/or certification: in orientation and mobility
    Knowledge of technology for Braille, large print and talking software
  • Additional: Copy of Transcript (Must Show Confer Date), Credential Copy (California Teaching Credential authorizing performance of service with programs for the visually impaired), Letter of Introduction, Resume

Desirable Qualifications

  • Experience working with children with visual impairments age birth through 21 years of age
  • Experience working with children with severe disabilities
  • Teaching experience in general education programs, elementary or secondary
  • Ability to use Sign Language
  • Bilingual Applicants

Benefits

Initial placement up to 20 years of creditable experience may be accepted upon verification.
Master’s Degree – $2,000 annual stipend
Doctorate Degree – $3,000 annual stipend

Pay

$62,437.00 - $132,707.00 Annually

Schedule

M-F; 7 Hrs.; 184 Days
