Job Purpose

In keeping a tradition of excellence, the purpose of the Transportation Supervisor is to enable each student, through safe and efficient transportation, to take full advantage of the complete range of curricular and extracurricular activities offered by the District's schools.

Duties And Responsibilities

  • Develop and administer a transportation program to meet all the requirements of the instructional program and extracurricular activities
  • Prepare and update all bus routes to ensure the most efficient, economical, convenient, and safe pupil transportation routing system to meet district's needs and accommodate efficiency of operation
  • Recruit, supervise and plan training for all transportation personnel; Certifies that all bus drivers meet certification requirements
  • Resolve issues, concerns, and complaints pertaining to student transportation and act as a liaison with parents for complaints and special requests
  • Cooperate with school principals in solving discipline problems occurring on school buses
  • Cooperate with school principals and others responsible for planning special school trips
  • Conform to all state laws and regulations regarding school transportation
  • Maintain all district-owned transportation equipment and develops plans for preventive maintenance to ensure all vehicles are safe and in the best possible condition
  • Maintain files and submit required reports

Qualifications

  • Education Level: Bachelor's degree in Education
  • Certification: Hold an appropriate Mississippi Teaching Credential or valid emergency certification issued by the state of Mississippi Educational Board
  • Other Requirements: Valid Commercial Drivers Licenses with "P" and "S" endorsements, Current DOT/Non-DOT physical or be able to obtain, Current MDE Driver Certification

The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, reach, crouch or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and move up to 35 pounds and occasionally up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
  • Work Environment: The work environment is not a standard office setting; but rather encompasses the entire active school campus both inside and outside the facilities. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate and occasionally high.
