TEACHER, SPECIAL EDUCATION - VISUALLY IMPAIRED Eligibility Pool

About the Role

Under the direction of a site administrator or the Director of Special Education & SELPA, the Special Education Teacher for Visual Impairments will provide instruction, assessment, and program planning for students with blindness, visual impairment, and deaf-blindness. This role involves monitoring student progress, researching and providing instructional materials, and serving as a resource for students, parents, and staff.

Responsibilities

• Provide instruction, assessment, and program planning for special education students with visual impairments.
• Participate in preparing Individual Education Plan (IEP) goals and objectives for eligible students.
• Monitor and evaluate student progress and behavior.
• Research, obtain, and provide instructional materials for special education services.
• Serve as an informational resource for students, parents, District personnel, and community organizations.
• Respond to referrals and provide screening and academic assessment for special education students.
• Prepare and maintain records and reports related to student progress and behavior.
• Coordinate and conduct team meetings and implement recommendations.
• Train and provide work direction to assigned personnel.
• Operate office and classroom equipment, including computers and software.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree including courses needed to meet credential requirements.
• Student teaching classroom experience.
• Valid Education Specialist Instructional Credential - Visual Impairments.
• English Learner Authorization (CLAD/BCLAD/EL/ELA/SDAIE or equivalent).

Skills

• Knowledge of instruction, assessment, and program planning for students with visual impairments.
• Understanding of basic subjects taught in District schools.
• Proficiency in English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and vocabulary.
• Familiarity with child guidance principles and practices for students with special needs.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
• Skill in establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships.
• Capability to analyze situations and adopt effective courses of action.

Requirements

• Valid Education Specialist Instructional Credential - Visual Impairments.
• English Learner Authorization (CLAD/BCLAD/EL/ELA/SDAIE or equivalent).
• Two current signed letters of recommendation.
• Resume.

Note: For credential copies, attach the CTC page showing credential expiration date and specific subject matter. Intern eligible students, students completing full credentials by 8/1/25, and out-of-state credentialed applicants should follow specific instructions provided.
