Position Overview

Provides instruction and is responsible for student learning for identified special education students during a particular time period in all core content subjects.

Typical Duties And Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) by assessing student needs, collaborating with families and multidisciplinary teams, and delivering specialized instruction that supports academic, behavioral, social, and functional growth.
  • Provide differentiated instruction in individual, small-group, inclusive, and self-contained settings while implementing evidence-based instructional, behavioral, and intervention strategies to meet diverse learning needs.
  • Collaborate with general education teachers, related service providers, administrators, and families to promote student success, support inclusive practices, and ensure appropriate accommodations and modifications are implemented.
  • Monitor, assess, and document student progress toward IEP goals, maintain accurate educational records, and use data to inform instruction and instructional planning.
  • Foster a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment by supervising students, mentoring paraprofessionals, promoting positive behavior, and preparing students for successful transitions within school and beyond.

Minimum Requirements

  • Must hold a valid Connecticut State Department of Education (CSDE) educator certificate with an endorsement in one or more of the following endorsement areas: 051 (1-12), 053 (1-12), 065 (1-12), 165 (1-12), 265 (1-12), or another applicable endorsement appropriate for the assignment.
  • Preferred Requirements: Bilingual proficiency in Spanish or Haitian Creole highly desirable.
