The Chandler Unified School District has named Chandler Unified School District as Best School District in AZ 2026. Employment Type: Full-time Base Salary: $58,000 + $5,000 special education stipend.

About the Role

The Resource Teacher at Chandler Unified School District bridges academic and behavioral support. This role involves teaching a specialized Behavior Strategies class, co-teaching General Education Math and ELA, and implementing targeted behavioral interventions to ensure student success.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and implement a program of study that meets the individual needs of students based on their skills, abilities, and unique circumstances.
  • Provide research-based, specialized instruction to address instructional goals and objectives contained within each student's IEP.
  • Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students.
  • Develop and implement reasonable classroom rules that address behavior and procedure in a fair and consistent manner.
  • Create a weekly lesson plan describing daily learning experiences correlated with the aims and/or objectives in the curriculum guide and/or course outline.
  • Maintain both paper and electronic student records.
  • Complete duties as Service Coordinator for students assigned to individual workload (to include IEP paperwork, special education assessment, quarterly progress reports, data collection, parent communication, collaboration with team members).
  • Identify and address specific student needs, and seek assistance from the site department chair.
  • Communicate using organized, clear, and precise language.
  • Assist the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing the development of proper student behavior.
  • Utilize trauma-informed practices and de-escalation techniques to handle behavioral crises safely.
  • Consult with teachers, administration, and parents to support students' academic and behavioral needs.

Qualifications

  • Arizona Teaching Certificate (Special Education and/or relevant endorsements preferred)
  • Bachelor's degree in Special Education, Education, or a related field (preferred)
  • 2+ years of classroom experience with a strong, proven background in behavior management (PBIS) and co-teaching models (preferred)
  • Certified in crisis de-escalation preferred (e.g., CPI) or willing to obtain certification; exceptional patience and adaptability (preferred)
  • AZ IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card
  • SEI endorsement coursework completed
  • Appropriate approved areas/endorsements may be required, depending on the area of instruction
  • Knowledge of computer applications

Pay

$58,000 base salary + $5,000 special education stipend.

Schedule

Calendars: 1960 (New Teachers), 1961 (Returning Teachers)

New Hire Experience

  • $400 for each full-time year of certified teaching or verified like experience in the last 10 years, max $2800
  • National Board Certification $3,000 annually

New Hire Education

  • $1250 for advanced degrees + $80/hour of graduate level credits: BA +96 hours max, MA +96 hours max, $500 for additional advanced degrees beyond Master's
