Teacher Special Education - Early Childhood

About the role

The Special Education Teacher will plan and implement developmentally appropriate classroom activities in an innovative educational setting based on established performance standards and best practices.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a collaborative leader of the classroom team, providing instruction in various settings using effective, individualized instructional techniques.
• Organize the classroom environment, instructional materials, and schedule to maximize learning, including maintaining clean and organized work areas.
• Utilize appropriate assessment tools and ongoing data collection to develop and implement goals for each child, measure performance, and make referrals as needed.
• Adhere to the school’s philosophy on behavior management and implement relevant techniques appropriately.
• Facilitate language and communication development using techniques tailored to each child.
• Participate in all relevant activities and meetings (e.g., Initial and Annual Reviews, Parent/Teacher Conferences, Open School Night, Home Visits, Team/Department/Classroom Meetings).
• Comply with regulatory requirements and school policies, submitting all necessary documentation on time.
• Maintain effective interpersonal relationships with team members, parents, staff, supervisors, administrators, and outside agencies.
• Demonstrate open communication, flexibility, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• New York State Certification in Special Education for Students with Disabilities (Grades 1-6 or 7-12, Initial or Professional).
• BA or Master’s Degree in Special Education or related field.
• Willingness to consider candidates with a BA who are enrolled in a Special Education Master’s Program leading to certification.
• Experience working with school-age students with special needs (ages 10-21 preferred).
• Trained or willing to be trained in CPR/First Aid, SCIP, CPI, and Choking Prevention.
