Teacher (Special Education).

Provide instruction at the professional level as a classroom teacher, team teacher, or remedial/special services teacher within the school's organizational structure.

Responsibilities

• Plan, implement, and evaluate instructional activities under established guidelines.
• Prepare yearly instructional outlines and daily lesson plans covering relevant units of study, specifying objectives, activities, and evaluative methods for both group and individual programs.
• Teach students by selecting, developing, adapting, and implementing appropriate instructional methods and techniques using available resources to ensure academic achievement.
• Provide learning experiences in assigned subject areas that develop cognitive, affective, and psychomotor skills tailored to the needs and interests of all students.
• Continuously evaluate individual and group academic progress using criterion-referenced tests, periodic standardized tests, oral tests, and other relevant evaluative methods.
• Use alternative instruction to meet individual student needs.
• Make progress reports to parents and confer with parents and other concerned individuals.
• Maintain required records in accordance with applicable regulations.
• Maintain control of assigned class and handle discipline independently, except for chronic or extreme behavior problems.
• Counsel individual students within established guidelines, using background information to provide an effective instruction-learning cycle regarding behavior and progress.

Requirements

• U.S. citizenship is required.
• Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must be registered under the Military Selective Service Act and the Defense Authorization Act of 1986.
• A background security investigation will be required for all new hires; appointment is contingent upon successful completion and favorable adjudication.
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license, as the position may require operating a government-owned or leased motor vehicle as an incidental duty.
• Must possess and maintain valid Teacher licensure/certification in the State where the position is located and in the specialty field identified by the position.
• This position is exempt from the Fair Labor Standards Act.
• Probationary period of one academic year (two full academic semesters) during which fitness and continued employment will be evaluated.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree (or higher) from an accredited education institution.
• Valid Teacher certification/licensure in the appropriate endorsement area. Emergency and provisional certificates may be accepted under conditions issued by the State certification authority.
• Applicants with valid State Certification in a state other than where the position is located may be considered; if selected, they must obtain full State Teacher Certification within two full contract terms.

Education must have been obtained from an accredited or pre-accredited institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education to be credited toward qualifications. For foreign education, credentials must be evaluated by a private organization specializing in interpretation of foreign education programs and deemed equivalent to a U.S. education program.

Pay

Pay setting is based on degree and having 24 hours in education, determined after the selection process. Pay levels are as follows:

• Pay Level 11: Bachelor’s Degree
• Pay Level 12: Bachelor’s Degree and 15 graduate semester hours
• Pay Level 13: Bachelor’s Degree and 30 graduate semester hours
• Pay Level 14: Master’s Degree
• Pay Level 15: Master’s Degree and 15 graduate semester hours
• Pay Level 16: Master’s Degree and 30 graduate semester hours
• Pay Level 17: Earned Doctorate

Education must be in coursework related to the topic being taught or general teaching methodologies. Experience is considered for determining pay increments, with a maximum of 17 years creditable. Per-hour rate for Teacher positions will be modified based on the school calendar for the location (Modified Hourly/Date Rate).

This position is covered by a bargaining unit (Federation of Indian Service Employees, American Federation of Teachers Local 4521). Government quarters may be available. Direct deposit of pay is required. Travel and relocation expenses will not be paid. No recruitment incentive is offered.
