Starting salary is $48,700. Referendum money is available for the 2026-27 school year only, adding approximately $7,000; teachers hired during the school year will receive a prorated supplement based on hire date.

Responsibilities

  • Designs and implements a data-driven, comprehensive guidance program to meet the academic, career, and social/personal needs of students as outlined in the District School Counseling Plan.
  • Supervises the maintenance and procedures regarding student records.
  • Conducts classroom guidance activities focused on academic, career, and social-emotional learning.
  • Monitors each student’s State Assessment requirements and course requirements for promotion and/or graduation.
  • Implements, in conjunction with teachers and staff, the district career program to provide students with information on curriculum, postsecondary opportunities, scholarships, financial aid, and career opportunities.
  • Makes student referrals to school and community agencies and provides regular feedback to teachers.
  • Offers developmental and preventive individual and group counseling for all students.
  • Conducts planned articulation and orientation programs for feeder schools.
  • Serves as a resource person for school staff on guidance-related activities and techniques.
  • Coordinates district/community counseling services conducted in the school, including services of the student services team.
  • Provides students, parents, and teachers with appropriate support, consultative services, and training.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in School Counseling and Guidance from an accredited college or university.
  • Eligibility for Florida Department of Education Specialization Requirements for Certification in Guidance and Counseling.

Skills & Knowledge

  • Knowledge of Florida Statutes governing promotion, graduation, state assessment programs, compulsory school attendance, credits, Florida Virtual School, and home school.
  • Knowledge of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and Exceptional Student Education services eligibility requirements.
  • Knowledge of Section 504 of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
  • Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation software.
  • Ability to plan and implement a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students.
  • Ability to devote additional hours beyond the workday for grading, counseling, and preparation.
  • Ability to manage students and multiple tasks effectively.
