About the role

Responsibilities

  • Designs and implements a data-driven, comprehensive guidance program to meet the academic, career, and social/personal needs of students at the school as outlined in the District School Counseling Plan.
  • Supervises the maintenance and procedures regarding student records.
  • Conducts classroom guidance activities focused on academic, career, and social emotional learning.
  • Makes student referrals to school and community agencies and provides regular and appropriate feedback to teachers.
  • Offers developmental and preventive individual and group counseling for all students.
  • Serves as a resource person for school staff on guidance-related activities and techniques.
  • Coordinates district/community counseling services conducted in the school, including the services of the student services team that serves the school.
  • Provides students, parents, and teachers with appropriate and necessary support, consultative services, and training.

Requirements

  • Education: Master's degree in School Counseling and Guidance from an accredited college or university.
  • Experience: None required.
  • Certifications & Licenses: Must be eligible for Florida Department of Education Specialization Requirements for Certification in Guidance and Counseling.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Florida Statutes governing promotion, graduation, state assessment program, compulsory school attendance, credits, Florida Virtual School, and home school.
  • Knowledge of the Individual with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and Exceptional Student Education services eligibility requirements.
  • Knowledge of Section 504 of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
  • Knowledge of subject content.
  • Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong time management skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Strong word processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation software skills.
  • Ability to plan and implement a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students.
  • Ability to devote additional hours beyond the workday for grading papers and preparation of lesson plans.
  • Ability to manage students.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks.
