About the role
This posting creates a pool of candidates for future positions that may become available. The successful candidate will provide instruction in a Secondary Magnet Program in Anne Arundel County Public Schools (AACPS), focusing on STEM education.
Responsibilities
- Attends and actively participates in staff/faculty meetings and special committees, providing input on instructional goals, objectives, and methods.
- Evaluates student progress using appropriate assessment techniques, such as preparing, administering, and correcting evaluations and assessments.
- Selects and uses appropriate instructional strategies, including lectures, group discussions, demonstrations, modeling, and multi-media teaching aids.
- Counsels pupils when academic and adjustment problems arise, and confers with parents and students regarding progress/problems of assigned students.
- Maintains order and discipline in the classroom, monitors and evaluates student performance, and designs and delivers classroom instruction aligned with Magnet Program pedagogical philosophies.
- Improves skill and knowledge base in current trends, research, and methodology in instructional techniques, technology, multicultural content, problem-solving, and interdisciplinary connections.
- Participates in regular professional development aligned with Magnet Program (including project and problem-based learning).
- Plans and supervises purposeful assignments for instructional assistants, teacher assistants, and volunteers.
- Performs other related duties as assigned within the same classification or lower.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in related field of education from a regionally accredited college or university.
- Two (2) years teaching experience required; or an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

- Knowledge of school organization, curriculum, and teaching techniques.
- Understanding of the teaching/learning process.
- Ability to provide instruction that reflects multiple perspectives and multicultural education.
- Ability to infuse technology into curriculum.
- Ability to work effectively with administrators, colleagues, central office and school board staff, students, parents, and community.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively and engage diverse parents/guardians with varied communication styles, levels of skill and experience to support their child’s education experience.
- Demonstrated proficiency with business technology applications (e.g. Video/Web Conferencing, Microsoft Office Suite - Word, Excel, Outlook, and/or PowerPoint preferred).
