About the role

This posting creates a pool of candidates for future positions that may become available. The successful candidate will provide instruction in a Secondary Magnet Program in Anne Arundel County Public Schools (AACPS).

Responsibilities

  • Attends and actively participates in staff/faculty meetings and special committees.
  • Evaluates student progress using appropriate assessment techniques.
  • Selects and uses appropriate instructional strategies.
  • Counsels pupils when academic and adjustment problems arise.
  • Maintains order and discipline in the classroom.
  • Monitors and evaluates student performance.
  • Improves skill and knowledge base in current trends, research and methodology in instructional techniques, technology, multicultural content, problem solving and interdisciplinary connections.
  • Participates in regular professional development aligned with Magnet Program (including but not limited to project and problem-based learning).
  • Plays a leadership role in evening, weekend and summer Magnet events.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in related field of education from a regionally accredited college or university.
  • Two (2) years teaching experience required; or an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of school organization; goals and objectives; curriculum; teaching techniques; current trends, research and materials of instruction in field of specialization.
  • Understanding of the teaching/learning process.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with administrators, colleagues, central office and school board staff, students, parents and community.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with business technology applications (e.g. Video/Web Conferencing, Microsoft Office Suite -Word, Excel, Outlook, and/or PowerPoint preferred).

Skills

  • Excellent oral and written communication and human relations skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively work and communicate with diverse populations.
