About the Role
This position is an anticipated opening for a Pre-K Counts Teacher at Juniata County Early Childhood Services in Mifflintown, PA.
Responsibilities
- Plan instructional activities as described in the PA Early Learning Standards for a minimum of 5 1/4 hours per day for preschool-aged children. Instructional time includes:
- Classroom Instruction
- Orientation of children to the program, settings, and routines
- Meals/snack-time, if integral to the curriculum and facilitated by the Lead Teacher
- Play-time, including outdoor/indoor play or child-directed activities, if part of the instructional day
- Library visits, art, music, or physical education
- Opening exercises, including circle time
- Educational trips
- Develop an individual plan for each child, including goal setting based on identified needs and activities to meet established goals.
- Screen, observe, and document children's progress related to individual goals.
- Make appropriate referrals to Early Intervention providers for children needing further support.
- Collaborate with Early Intervention providers and other agencies (e.g., Head Start, preschools, daycare, mental health services) to coordinate services and maximize resources.
- Supervise and eat nutritionally prepared meals/snacks with children to model good nutrition and social skills.
- Understand and follow regulations for preventing occupational disease and injury, including universal precautions and contamination prevention.
- Establish systems to meet program needs for parent involvement in each classroom.
- Build positive and productive relationships with families, focusing on trust and rapport.
- Participate in parent orientation to the program.
- Schedule and document parent-teacher conferences and home visits as required.
- Involve parents in educational activities, emphasizing their role in child development and assisting them in increasing their knowledge and skills.
- Assist families and children in transitioning into Kindergarten.
- Direct and supervise teacher aides, classroom staff, and volunteers, including monitoring performance and conducting evaluations.
- Submit daily attendance records and monthly reports to the direct Supervisor.
- Gather and maintain individual, family, and classroom data for documentation, assessment, and program planning.
- Attend the PA Pre-K Counts Core Series of Professional Development within the first two years of hire.
- Obtain a minimum of 24 hours of professional development annually, with at least 12 hours specific to early childhood education.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
