About the Role
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Classroom Teacher to join our team. You will create a positive and engaging learning environment for students, develop and implement lesson plans, assess student progress, and provide guidance and support to help students reach their full potential.
Responsibilities
- Plans and prepares lessons and other instructional materials following curriculum guidelines.
- Instructs students in various subjects using ASL and English.
- Confers with parents, testing specialists, and other administrators to develop individual educational plans for students.
- Encourages students to participate in class discussions and activities.
- Prepares, administers, and scores academic tests and records results.
- Meets and confers with parents and supervisors to discuss students' academic and behavioral attitudes and achievements.
- Assists in selecting appropriate textbooks and learning materials.
- Participates in curriculum development and maintains updated lesson plans as prescribed by the curriculum.
- Intercedes in emergency situations as required.
- Attends departmental and faculty meetings.
- Maintains order in the classroom.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Eligibility for NYS certification as a Teacher of the Deaf or Special Education.
- Master’s degree in Deaf Education or childhood education preferred.
- Ability to successfully complete a Sign Language Proficiency Interview (SLPI) at the proficiency level defined for the position.
- Preference given to candidates with Teacher of the Deaf or Special Education Certification.
- Completion of behavior management training programs (e.g., TCI – Therapeutic Crisis Intervention) may be required.
Pay
Salary is based on teaching experience and NYS certification, per the current Teacher’s contract.
