Role Overview

The Indiana School for the Blind and Visually Impaired is a nationally and internationally recognized institution that educates children and young adults who are blind or have low vision. As a full-time teaching position, you will instruct both residential and non-residential students, focusing on Indiana Core Curriculum and ISBVI Expanded Core Curriculum. The position requires a valid teaching license in Indiana and proficiency in Braille or willingness to learn it.

Responsibilities

• Provide instruction aligned with each student's Individual Education Plan (IEP) goals and state standards.
• Assess and document student progress, and report to parents through IEP updates.
• Supervise students to ensure their health, safety, and welfare.
• Lead or participate in school improvement committees.
• Assist with supervision of co-curricular events.
• Teach in students' preferred communication mode.
• Ensure reliable attendance, punctuality, and dependability.
• Offer direct services and consults to students, families, and stakeholders.
• Prepare lesson plans that meet ISBVI and state standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Elementary Education, Special Education, or a related field.
• Valid teaching license or emergency license through the State of Indiana.
• Specialized knowledge of teaching methods and materials for visually impaired students.
• Ability to evaluate student performance and progress.
• Effective communication skills.
• Knowledge of Indiana House Bill 1003 to protect student privacy.
• Experience working with diverse student populations.

Pay
