We are looking for motivated individuals who desire to effect positive change in young people’s lives in a private day school setting in Lynchburg, VA. Small classroom sizes and opportunities for upward mobility are key features of this role.
Responsibilities
- Create and implement weekly lesson plans.
- Administer formal and informal assessments to measure student growth and mastery and to evaluate and refine instruction.
- Differentiate instruction effectively to meet the individual needs of students.
- Identify students who are academically at risk and initiate effective intervention strategies.
- Participate actively in professional development.
- Assist the administration in implementing all policies and/or rules governing student life and conduct; develop reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedures and maintain order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
- Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations.
- Attend and participate in Community School Committee and various Advisory Committee meetings.
Requirements
- Teaching License with a Special Education endorsement OR content area endorsement.
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Safety-Care Certification (training provided).
- Valid Virginia Driver’s License, proof of insurance, and a satisfactory driving record (less than 5 demerit points).
- Clean driving record with no violations within the last 5 years, including:
- Reckless driving, including speeding 20mph or more over the posted speed limit.
- Driving under the influence/impaired/intoxicated or refusing a blood/breath test.
- Manslaughter or negligent homicide.
- Driving after being declared a habitual offender.
- Driving on a suspended or revoked license.
- Driving a commercial motor vehicle while disqualified, under the influence, with a blood alcohol level of .04 or higher, refusing a blood/breath test, or violating an out-of-service order.
- Injuring a person while racing (felony).
- Failure to stop at the scene of a crash where there is injury, death, or property damage of $1000 or more.
- Emergency vehicle violation resulting in death.
- Vehicular assault or willful stopping, impeding, or damaging a vehicle.
- Blocking access to the service facility.
- Attempting to elude police.
- Operating an unsafe vehicle.
- Vulnerable Road User – Death.
- Clean driving record with no violations within the last 3 years, including:
- Passing a stopped school bus.
- Careless driving.
- Three or more minor moving violations within the last three years.
Schedule
Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:00 PM.
Pay
- Competitive salary starting at $50,000 with experience-based increases.
- $2,500 sign-on bonus for fully licensed teachers with a Special Education endorsement.
- $2,000 salary increase for a renewable Special Education teaching endorsement.
- $2,000 salary increase available with a master’s degree.
