About the role

The Teacher, Long Term On-Site Substitute provides a high-quality, personalized education program for students using the Aspire approach when the regular classroom teacher is unavailable. This role supports long-term on-site substitute assignments at one specific school site, acting as a consistent staff member and filling in for any needed position on a daily basis.

Responsibilities

• Follows classroom systems and procedures established by the regular classroom teacher, managing student behavior to ensure full engagement in learning.
• Reinforces a culture of high expectations, including college preparation for all students.
• Implements lesson plans and classroom activities consistent with California State Standards, Aspire Instructional Guidelines, and teacher plans for substitutes.
• Assesses students regularly in accordance with Aspire guidelines and teacher plans, refining classroom activities to differentiate instruction.
• Collaborates with Aspire team members to improve instructional practices and shares best practices.
• Actively participates in professional development activities, including training sessions and working with lead teachers, principals, and instructional coaches.
• Provides regular classroom teachers with timely information on classroom activities and student progress.
• Tracks critical student information and maintains accurate records, including attendance, following Aspire procedures.
• Collaborates with regular classroom teachers, team members, and outside service providers to address learning challenges in accordance with individual student plans.
• Schedules coverage of regular classroom teachers’ classrooms according to priorities set by the Regional Vice President (RVP) and tracks work schedule.
• Demonstrates knowledge of and supports Aspire Public Schools’ mission, vision, value statements, standards, policies, and procedures.
• Performs other related duties as required and assigned.

Requirements

• Knowledge of child cognitive development and different learning styles.
• Knowledge of subject matter, including California State Standards and subject-specific frameworks.
• Knowledge of assessments.
• Ability and willingness to implement Aspire Instructional Guidelines and Best Practices.
• Ability to analyze qualitative and quantitative student data.
• Ability and willingness to reflect and improve instructional practices.
• Ability to collaborate with colleagues, parents, and community.
• Willingness to drive to Aspire schools within a 45-minute radius.
• Computer and Internet search skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree.
• Valid California Teaching Credential or Teaching Permit for Statutory Leave in the appropriate subject area.
• 1+ year working with students as a teacher, teacher intern, or teaching assistant (preferred).

Physical Requirements

• Moving in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments, including tight and confined spaces.
• Remaining in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods.
• Moving about to accomplish tasks or transitioning between worksites.
• Assessing the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of assigned work.
• Communicating with others to exchange information.
• Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.

Work Environment

The work environment includes indoor settings such as offices, computer labs, and classrooms, as well as outdoor environments. Exposure to dust, oils, cleaning chemicals, and childhood diseases in a school setting may occur. Work may require hours outside of normal workdays and office hours to meet operational deadlines.
