About the role

A Long-Term Substitute is responsible for teaching appropriate grade-level standard-based curriculum to students, following school/district-approved curriculum while the classroom teacher is absent for an extended period of time.

Responsibilities

  • Counsel students to encourage and support student achievement.
  • Monitor, supervise, coordinate, and enforce rules of conduct and behavior of assigned students; reinforce positive student behaviors in accordance with school and District policy.
  • Observe, evaluate, report, and record students’ performance, behavior, social development, and physical health.
  • Prepare educational course outlines, objectives, and materials according to curriculum guidelines or state and local requirements.
  • Establish and communicate clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects to students.
  • Present subject matter to students using various teaching methods and technology; adjust teaching style and method to meet student learning styles.
  • Instruct students individually and in groups using various teaching methods (e.g., lectures, technology, discussions).
  • Prepare, administer, assign, and grade tests and assignments to evaluate student progress; report grades using District software.
  • Prepare student attendance and activity reports as required by administrators.
  • Communicate with parents or guardians, teachers, counselors, and administrators to resolve students’ behavioral and academic problems and coordinate instructional efforts.

Requirements

  • Hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Education or related field.
  • Have a valid Colorado Department of Education (CDE) teaching license. (DPS accepts a CDE Application Receipt for 90 days.)
  • Lead for racial and educational excellence and work to dismantle systems of oppression and inequity in our community.
  • Believe in and support all students so they feel seen and heard with access to high-quality education.
  • Live and work with a permanent home address in Colorado while working with us.
  • Have the ability, with or without accommodations, to meet the physical demands of the position.

Pay

$30.00 per hour.
