About the Role

The elementary school teacher performs instructional work under moderate supervision, providing leadership in the educational environment to encourage and nurture learning for all students. The teacher supervises, monitors, and evaluates students while developing lesson plans to meet diverse student needs, all while carrying out Board of Education policies under the direction of the principal.

Responsibilities

• Adhere to all state, federal, and local laws, policies, and procedures, as well as the North Carolina Professional Teaching Standards.
• Assist school administration in implementing policies and rules governing student life and conduct; develop and maintain fair classroom behavior and procedures.
• Create a culture of effectiveness by setting high standards and expectations for all students.
• Plan and implement a program of study in the assigned content area, tailored to students' needs, interests, and abilities.
• Instruct students individually and in groups using various teaching methods to engage them in the learning process.
• Guide the learning process toward curriculum goals in alignment with district and North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) standards.
• Establish clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects, and communicate these to students.
• Prepare for classes and maintain written evidence of preparation as required.
• Diagnose student learning challenges and seek assistance from central office staff as needed; maintain accurate records for IEPs and 504 Plans.
• Provide an instructional program to meet the needs of all students, including those with disabilities and limited English proficiency.
• Prepare materials and classrooms for activities, offering a variety of resources for exploration and learning.
• Encourage students to explore learning opportunities and persevere through challenges.
• Use techniques and strategies that promote critical, creative, and evaluative thinking.
• Prepare, administer, and grade tests and assignments to assess student progress.
• Act as a test administrator for the North Carolina Test Program, following all designated guidelines and policies.
• Observe and assess students' performance, behavior, social development, and physical needs.
• Meet with parents/guardians to discuss student progress, priorities, and resource needs; encourage parent involvement.
• Confer with parents, counselors, and administrators to resolve behavioral and academic challenges.
• Prepare and implement enrichment programs and remediation as needed.
• Attend Professional Learning Community (PLC) and staff meetings for data analysis and instructional planning.
• Participate in professional development to improve skills and knowledge.
• Perform safety functions and drills to maintain a safe instructional environment.
• Take necessary safety precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
• Perform related work as assigned or required.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree required.
• Valid NC Teaching certification or eligibility for NC Teaching certification in the assigned area.
• Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Skills

• Comprehensive knowledge of curriculum principles, standards, and expectations in the assigned area.
• Ability to utilize data and information to make instructional decisions for students.
• Understanding of learning styles, curriculum development, program evaluation, instructional strategies, classroom management, and learning assessment.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficiency in computers and software, including Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.
• Ability to learn and use specialized tools, equipment, or software related to instructional practice.
• Ability to implement local, state, and federal rules, guidelines, and procedures.
• Effective communication and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
• Ability to work independently, take initiative, and thrive in a deadline-driven, team environment.

Pay

Certified salary schedule.

Schedule

Full-time, 10-month position.

Reports to: Principal

Place of work: Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools premises, with the possibility of other locations as required.
