About the Role
The elementary school teacher performs instructional work under moderate supervision, providing leadership in the educational environment to encourage and nurture learning for all students. The teacher supervises, monitors, and evaluates students while developing lesson plans to meet diverse student needs, all in alignment with Board of Education policies and under the direction of the principal.
Responsibilities
- Adhere to all state, federal, and local laws, policies, and procedures, as well as the North Carolina Professional Teaching Standards.
- Assist school administration in implementing policies and rules governing student life and conduct; develop and maintain fair classroom behavior and procedures.
- Create a culture of effectiveness by setting high standards and expectations for all students.
- Plan and implement a program of study in the assigned content area, tailored to student needs, interests, and abilities.
- Instruct students individually and in groups using diverse teaching methods to engage learners and achieve objectives.
- Guide the learning process toward curriculum goals in alignment with district and North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) standards.
- Establish clear learning objectives and communicate them to students.
- Prepare for assigned classes and provide written evidence of preparation upon request.
- Diagnose student learning challenges regularly and seek assistance from central office staff as needed; maintain accurate records for IEPs and 504 Plans.
- Provide an instructional program that meets the needs of all students, including those with disabilities and limited English proficiency.
- Prepare materials and classrooms for activities, offering a variety of resources for exploration and learning.
- Encourage students to explore learning opportunities and persevere through challenges.
- Use techniques and strategies that promote critical, creative, and evaluative thinking.
- Prepare, administer, and grade tests and assignments to assess student progress.
- Act as a test administrator for the North Carolina Test Program, following all designated guidelines and policies.
- Observe and assess students' performance, behavior, social development, and physical needs regularly.
- Meet with parents/guardians to discuss progress, determine priorities, and encourage involvement; collaborate to resolve behavioral and academic challenges.
- Prepare and implement enrichment programs and remediation as needed.
- Attend Professional Learning Community (PLC) and staff meetings for data analysis and instructional planning.
- Participate in professional development to improve skills and knowledge.
- Maintain a safe instructional environment, including conducting safety drills and protecting students and facilities.
- Perform related work as assigned or required.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Valid NC Teaching certification or eligibility for certification in the assigned area.
- Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Skills
- Comprehensive knowledge of curriculum principles, standards, and expectations in the assigned area.
- Ability to utilize data and information to make instructional decisions for students.
- Understanding of learning styles, curriculum development, program evaluation, instructional strategies, classroom management, and learning assessment.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in computers and software, including Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.
- Ability to learn and use specialized tools, equipment, or software related to instructional practice.
- Ability to implement local, state, and federal rules, guidelines, and procedures.
- Effective communication, reasoning, and judgment skills.
- Ability to maintain positive working relationships and employ strong communication skills in all settings.
- Problem-solving skills and sound judgment.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding school system business.

Pay
Certified salary schedule.
Schedule
Full-time, 10-month position.
Reports to the Principal. The normal place of work is on the premises used by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, with the possibility of assignment to other locations as needed.
