TEACHER, ITINERANT SPECIAL EDUCATION - (GENERAL POOL)

About the role

This is an ongoing hiring need for the 2025/2026 school year and this general pool will remain open until all positions are filled.

Responsibilities

  • Help all students develop competence and confidence simultaneously through a balance of acquiring basic skills and developing conceptual understanding.
  • Provide instruction based on the students’ Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
  • Monitor, supervise, coordinate and enforce rule of conduct and behavior for assigned students, and reinforce positive student behaviors in accordance with school and District policy.
  • Observe, evaluate, report and record students' performance, behavior, social development, and physical health.
  • Communicate with parents or guardians, teachers, counselors, related service providers, and administrators to resolve students' behavioral and academic problems.
  • Prepare educational course outlines, objectives and materials according to curriculum guidelines or state and local requirements.
  • Present subject matter to students, using various teaching methods and technology, adjusting teaching style and method to meet student learning style.
  • May participate in extra-duty activities as outlined in the teachers' collective bargaining agreement (this is for coaching, tutoring, or summer programs, etc. for Dept. of Labor laws).

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Special Education is required;
  • Master’s degree is preferred;
  • Have a valid Colorado Department of Education (CDE) teaching license. Click here for additional information regarding specific requirements and qualifications for the various subject areas (DPS does accept a CDE Application Receipt for 90 days.).
  • Experience working with students with disabilities who represent the diversity of the District school community is preferred.
  • Ability to be adaptable and flexible within various job duties and assignments.
  • Position requires frequent travel throughout the district.

  • Live and work with a permanent home address in Colorado while working with us.
  • Have the ability with or without accommodations to meet the physical demands of the position.

Skills

  • Ability to work as a float teacher.

Pay

Please note: You must submit all relevant documentation via onboarding before the deadline (15 days after receiving your offer letter) for salary setting purposes.
