About the role
The teacher oversees and coordinates educational programs for child/adolescent inpatient units, develops curricula, and manages classroom activities. They also supervise assigned education specialists and communicate with various stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Assess population trends and design education programs tailored to needs
- Review and interpret education testing and assessment results
- Select educational materials and recommend programmatic changes
- Implement and enforce behavior management techniques
- Communicate with hospital staff, educational consultants, and families
- Coordinate transition back to school settings
- Attend required inservice programs and seminars
- Participate in hospital committees and performance improvement teams
- Conduct educational seminars and workshops
- Utilize marketing techniques to build relationships with referral resources
- Attend one seminar per year related to education or mental health
Requirements
- Current State of Wisconsin teaching license and certification
- One year of experience working with children or adolescents with exceptional educational needs or mental health issues
- Knowledge of behavioral symptoms, DSM-V, and teaching methods
- American Heart Association CPR certification
- Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NCI) training
- Ongoing continuing education requirements
