Teacher II / III, Early Head Start

About the role

This position is a full-time opportunity with comprehensive benefits, starting at $23.00 - $27.00 per hour, located at the Chestnut EHS Center in Lompoc.

Responsibilities

- Maintains 100% supervision of all children during the teacher/child ratio, by sight and sound. - Plans and carries out high quality, developmentally appropriate learning experiences with the team teacher. - Develops positive relationships with each child and parent. - Maintains a safe and organized classroom environment. - Assists children with self-care needs. - Maintains a physically safe environment and clean learning materials. - Attends and contributes to regular staff meetings and curriculum planning meetings. - Plans monthly/weekly curriculum with the team teacher. - Works on individualizing the curriculum and behavior plans for special needs children. - Assists with large group activities and small group sessions. - Plans and carries out transition activities for children entering or leaving the class/center. - Maintains narrative records on each child’s development. - Completes required paper and electronic records in a timely manner. - Assists with maintaining required assessments and screenings. - Attends IEP meetings for special needs children. - Attends parent meetings upon request. - Provides daily on-going communication with parents regarding children’s activities, development, and special needs. - Makes at least 2 home visits and two parent conferences with each assigned child’s family annually. - Participates in the evaluation and ongoing improvement of the program’s effectiveness. - Carries out responsibilities of staff supervision, licensing requirements, and overall center operations when the Site Supervisor is away from the center. - Uses positive child guidance methods consistently. - Available for pre-arranged evening or weekend home visits, meetings, or special events to meet the needs of working families. - Ensures children with food allergies receive the doctor-recommended substitutions. - Demonstrates sensitivity to children with special needs. - Functions as a positive team member. Communicates effectively with families and co-workers. - Performs other comparable related duties as required.

Requirements

A Teacher II requires an Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education/Child Development or a related field and eligibility for a Child Development Teacher permit or higher from the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing with three semester units in supervised field experience.

Skills & Abilities

- Computer skills: Knowledge of Internet software and Word Processing software. - Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Obtain and maintain a current Child Development Permit for the position held. Must also obtain and maintain a Pediatric First Aid and CPR card. - Other Skills and Abilities: Experience working with children with disabilities is desirable, and bilingual proficiency is preferred.

Qualifications

- Successfully complete a pre-employment physical examination. - Obtain a tuberculosis clearance and clear Community Care Licensing fingerprint process. - Provide verification of State required vaccines upon hire for: Influenza (from August 1 to December 1), Pertussis, and Measles. Acceptable verifications include immunization record and physician statement. Exceptions to vaccinations: Flu can be waived by completing an annual waiver.
