About the Role

Under general supervision of the Regional Site Director and Site Lead Teacher, delivers high-quality Early Childhood Development services to enrolled children, including educational, social, physical, nutritional, and psychological development. Communicates with parents about their child’s individual progress and maintains records of attendance and educational achievement.

Responsibilities

• Ensure proper care, safety, and supervision of all enrolled children for up to 7 hours per day.
• Maintain appropriate child/teacher ratio at all times.
• Establish a classroom routine conducive to learning, safety, and development.
• Plan and implement classroom lessons and activities indoors and outdoors in accordance with PACE Education Division curriculums and Head Start Performance Standards.
• Conduct learning and developmental assessments (e.g., DRDP-2015, ASQ-3, ASQ: SE2) according to timelines.
• Work with children of varying abilities and adhere to Individual Educational Plans.
• Perform interior and exterior environmental safety checks to ensure a safe learning environment.
• Prepare and assist in serving family-style meals to children.
• Clean and sanitize all areas of the classroom, including food preparation, dishwashing, eating, and toileting areas.
• Help children practice good hygiene, including personal cleanliness and toileting/diapering as needed.
• Serve as a translator for non-English-speaking parents (as appropriate).
• Conduct annual teacher-parent conferences and home visits.
• Maintain records of enrollment, attendance, and other required paperwork, both manually and digitally.
• Actively attend and participate in in-service trainings provided by PACE and other agencies.
• Collaborate effectively with other team members.
• Attend assignments away from the assigned site, such as in-service trainings, home visits, and parent conferences.
• Organize and maintain instructional and program supplies.
• Maintain an organized and developmentally appropriate classroom.
• Set up and take down classrooms as needed.
• Participate in recruitment of children to maintain full enrollment and an active waitlist.
• Recruit, train, and supervise parents and other volunteers.
• Use non-teaching hours to complete paperwork, home visits, conferences, and other requirements.
• Ensure accurate, complete, and up-to-date children’s files, paperwork, and documentation according to agency policies.
• Adhere to agency policies and procedures.
• Provide direction and coaching to Teacher Assistant(s) and give performance feedback to the Regional Site Director.
• Deliver culturally and linguistically appropriate customer service to parents, children, community members, and PACE staff daily.
• Cooperate with the Site Lead Teacher, Regional Site Director, and Service Area Managers in planning and implementation of the program.
• Support child watch during parent meetings/trainings as needed.
• Substitute as needed in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
• Attend all assigned meetings and trainings as required by the program.
• Support and ensure the achievement of recruitment and enrollment goals.
• Assist in accomplishing the program's non-federal share through community resources (services, donations, discounts, and/or goods).
• Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of the position.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or an Associate’s degree with active enrollment in a Bachelor’s program in child development or a related field.
• Current and valid Child Development Teacher Permit or higher. A Multiple Subject Teaching Credential may be accepted in lieu of a Child Development Permit.
• At least 18 years old.
• Ability to provide effective and nurturing teacher-child interactions and plan learning experiences that:
  • Ensure curriculum planning based on individual children’s development and integrate child assessment data.
  • Promote progress across Head Start Early Learning Outcomes Framework and state standards, including for children with disabilities and dual language learners.
  • Include developmentally appropriate learning experiences in language, literacy, social-emotional development, math, science, social studies, creative arts, and physical development.
  • Establish and maintain a healthy learning environment.
  • Encourage family engagement in children’s development.
• Team player with outstanding interpersonal skills.
• Strong organizational, written, oral communication, and observation skills.
• Basic computer skills.
• Bilingual in English/Spanish is a plus but not required.
• Current Adult & Pediatric CPR/First Aid Certificate.
• Valid California Driver’s License and insurance coverage.
• Must pass background checks prior to employment:
  • Sex Offender Registry
  • Child Abuse and Neglect State Registry
  • State or Tribal Criminal History Check (including fingerprints)
  • FBI Criminal History Check (including fingerprints)
• Verification of T.B. clearance at time of employment, renewed every four years (chest x-rays every 4 years).
• Pass health screening (LIC 503) at time of employment, renewed every two years.
• Proof of immunizations: Measles, Pertussis (Whooping Cough), Influenza, and COVID-19 (two-dose series of Pfizer/Moderna or single-dose Johnson & Johnson; exemptions available for medical or religious reasons).
• Complete 15 clock hours of professional development annually (minimum 7.5 hours focused on specific content area or job assignment).
• Complete an annual Professional Development Plan (PDP) reviewed three times per year.
• Obtain 21 hours/year of professional development (105 hours every five years) to maintain teaching certification.

Physical Demands

• Work in a preschool environment with moderate noise levels.
• Regular outdoor and indoor supervision of playgrounds/workplace.
• Lift and carry up to 45 lbs. or more.
• Maintain visual and auditory supervision of children at all times.
• Walk, sit, kneel, crawl, carry, push, pull, and participate in indoor/outdoor activities.
• Stand, sit, or kneel for extended periods.
• Manipulate objects with hands, reach overhead, and occasionally lift/carry objects up to 45 pounds.
