About the role
The Downingtown Area School District is seeking an English/Language Arts teacher for the start of the 2026-2027 school year at Marsh Creek Sixth Grade Center. The district values diversity and seeks candidates who bring various backgrounds and perspectives.
Responsibilities
- Plan and prepare lessons based on content knowledge and educational standards.
- Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment.
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues.
- Use current technology for individual or group demonstrations and communication.
- Adapt to flexible schedules to accommodate student and parent needs.
- Manage classroom effectively and communicate clearly with students.

Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited college or university.
- Hold a proper Pennsylvania certification for the position.
- Demonstrate knowledge in the area of assignment.
- Have a positive attitude toward the teaching profession, service to the district, and importance and purpose of the education program.
- Be proficient in using current technology for individual or group demonstrations or communication.
- Be able to flex and vary hours to accommodate needs of students, parents, and other teachers.
- Have effective interpersonal skills with the ability to interface diplomatically with teachers, administrators, parents, students, and outside organizations.
- Show excellent classroom management skills.
- Show effective communication skills to provide accurate information to others and to obtain, give, and follow directions.
- Show ability to provide good judgment, planning, and human relations skills, as well as be required to work under periods of stress due to the level of the position responsibility.
- Successfully complete and maintain compliance with all federal and state background and criminal record check requirements.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree.
- Valid PA certification specific to content area: English 7-12, 6-9 English; All subjects 4-6, English & Reading 7-8.
- Demonstrated knowledge in the area of assignment.

Pay
Placement upon salary scale is dependent upon education and years of teaching service. Refer to Appendix B of the DAEA Agreement - 2025-2030 for the 2026-2027 Salary Schedule.
Schedule
7.5 hours per day based upon district-approved calendar. Up to 191 days per year, plus up to 3 days of orientation for professional employees during first year of employment.
