Hire confirmation will occur only after the position is vacated, and you may start the year as a Long-Term Substitute if the position does not become vacant by the start of the school year.

Responsibilities
- Teach General Science in an SEI (Sheltered English Immersion) setting.
- Develop and implement an interdisciplinary course of study aligned with state curricular frameworks, fostering an understanding of the nature of science in all students.
- Use district-identified curriculum to implement research-based learning goals and objectives that challenge students to use scientific inquiry.
- Cultivate students' ability to see science as a way of thinking and investigating.
- Administer district mid-year and end-of-year assessments in accordance with district guidelines.

Requirements
- Hold a Bachelor's degree.
- Hold a Massachusetts Teaching License in General Science at the appropriate grade level.
- Meet all state and federal guidelines to be fully licensed and Highly Qualified.
- Ability to meet the Standards of Effective Teaching established by Boston Public Schools.
- Current authorization to work in the United States by the first day of employment.
Qualifications - Preferred
- Experience teaching in urban schools.
- SEI Endorsement or dual certification in ESL.
- Degree in a relevant science field and/or Education.
- Fluency in one of BPS' official languages: Spanish, Creole (Cape Verdean), Creole (Haitian), Chinese, Vietnamese, Portuguese, or Somali.
- Certification in Moderate Disabilities, English as a Second Language, or both (at the appropriate grade level(s)).
Pay
Salaries are determined by union agreements and grade/step. Refer to the BPS website for detailed salary and compensation information.
Schedule
The start and end times of BPS schools vary, as do the lengths of the school day. Some schools have a longer day through the "Schedule A" Expanded Learning Time (ELT) agreement.
