About the Role

This position involves teaching at the assigned grade level(s) and subject matter, focusing on English/Language Arts. The teacher will plan, develop, and implement long-range lesson plans and daily class work to ensure students meet or exceed curriculum content standards.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, develops, and organizes long-range lesson plans and daily class work to ensure in-depth learning within the allotted timeframe to meet curriculum content standards.
  • Selects, adapts, or modifies teaching methods or materials to effectively teach the assigned grade level(s) and subject matter.
  • Supports, counsels, and motivates students to meet or exceed grade-level standards, utilizing knowledge of individual student personalities, backgrounds, and interests.
  • Adheres to and implements safety and security procedures, contributing to a school climate conducive to learning, achievement, and citizenship.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Requirement.
  • Proof of U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Direct deposit of pay is required.
  • Appointment is subject to a suitability/fitness determination, as determined by a background investigation.
  • This position requires a Tier 1 (T1) investigation with Childcare Checks due to interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18).

Qualifications

  • Open to U.S. Citizens only.
  • A valid, fully professional state teaching license in content areas or the state's equivalent (as determined by DoDEA) is required. The license must be unencumbered (not revoked, suspended, or probationary).
  • The Praxis I and II or seven years of teaching at the PreK-12 level may substitute for an unencumbered license, provided all minimum education requirements, student teaching/internship, and qualification standards are met.
  • Military spouse preference applicants may receive consideration with an encumbered license.
  • A minimum of 24 semester hours in English/Language Arts is required, including coursework in English literature, American literature, and composition (writing process). At least 9 semester hours of upper-level coursework in English is required.
  • A conferred bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited U.S. institution is required.
  • Academic preparation of at least 40 semester hours in general education coursework distributed across fields such as English, history, social studies, mathematics, fine arts, languages, science, philosophy, and psychology.
  • A minimum of 18 semester hours of professional teacher education coursework in areas such as learning processes, tests and measurement, educational philosophy, psychology, social foundations, teaching methods, and curriculum applicable to the position.
  • Student teaching or an internship as part of an approved teacher education program in an accredited U.S. institution is required. One year of successful full-time employment as an educator may substitute for this requirement.

Foreign degrees and coursework from non-accredited institutions must be evaluated prior to acceptance through one of the following procedures:

  • Evaluation and interpretation by a current member of the foreign institution that awarded the degree.
  • Evaluation by a regionally accredited university or state department of education for teacher certification (requires an English translation of the transcript and degree document).
  • Validation by the graduate division of a regionally accredited university, declaring equivalence to U.S. undergraduate or graduate work.
  • Undergraduate work from non-accredited institutions may be validated by admittance to graduate school and completion of a minimum of 5 semester hours of credit in a regionally accredited graduate college.
