TEACHER, ELEMENTARY - MUSIC - K - 5TH GRADE

About the role

The Elementary Music Teacher teaches appropriate grade-level standards-based curriculum in Music to diverse elementary students (K–5th grade), following District-approved curriculum.

Responsibilities

• Counsels students to encourage and support student achievement.
• Monitors, supervises, coordinates, and enforces rules of conduct and behavior of assigned students; reinforces positive student behaviors in accordance with school and District policy.
• Observes, evaluates, reports, and records student performance, behavior, social development, and physical health.
• Prepares lesson plans and materials according to District-approved curriculum guidelines or state and local requirements.
• Presents subject matter to students using various teaching methods and instructional materials to meet varying needs and learning styles.
• Instructs students individually and in groups using various teaching methods (e.g., lectures, technology, discussions).
• Establishes and communicates clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects.
• Prepares, administers, assigns, and grades tests and assignments to evaluate student progress; reports grades using District software.
• Prepares student, attendance, and activity reports as required by administrators.
• Communicates with parents or guardians, teachers, counselors, and administrators to resolve student behavior and academic problems.
• May participate in extra-duty activities such as coaching, tutoring, or summer programs, as outlined in the Teachers’ Collective Bargaining Agreement and in accordance with Department of Labor regulations.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field required.
• Valid Colorado Department of Education (CDE) teaching license. Additional information regarding specific requirements and qualifications for the various subject areas. DPS accepts a CDE Application Receipt for 90 days.
• Bilingual communication is highly preferred.

• Permanent home address in Colorado while working with DPS.
• Ability, with or without accommodations, to meet the physical demands of the position.
