About the role
Provide dyslexia intervention to reduce impairment that interferes with the student's ability to derive full benefit from the educational program.
Responsibilities
- Provide dyslexia intervention to students who have been educationally identified with dyslexia (face to face or virtually).
- Evaluate student progress and program efficacy.
- Participate in the Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) process to collaborate with students, parents, campus, and District staff to develop appropriately challenging Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to plan and implement classroom activities to improve reading skills of students.
- Provide professional development in assigned schools to help school personnel identify and understand the characteristics of dyslexia.
- Follow District and campus guidelines for classroom layout.
- Create classroom environments conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
- Collaborate with teachers and staff regarding individual student behavior supports.
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Organize, maintain, and file all physical and computerized data, records, and other documents.
- Comply with policies established by federal and state laws, State Board of Education rule, and Board policy.
- Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or higher.
- Valid Texas teaching certificate in Special Education EC-12, Generalist/Core Subjects, ELAR, Reading Specialist, Master Reading Teacher (or other certificate in the field of literacy).
- Certified Academic Language Practitioner (CALP)/Certified Academic Language Therapist (CALT) certification - candidate will be expected to complete a two-year accredited dyslexia therapist training program AND obtain CALP/CALT certification by successfully passing the required examination.
- Minimum of three years teaching experience in the subject area assigned.
Special Knowledge/Skills
- Knowledge of curriculum design and implementation.
- Ability to evaluate instruction programs and teaching effectiveness.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Experience in dyslexia intervention and instructional strategies.
Qualifications
- Education/Certification: Bachelor's degree or higher, valid Texas teaching certificate in Special Education EC-12, Generalist/Core Subjects, ELAR, Reading Specialist, Master Reading Teacher (or other certificate in the field of literacy), Certified Academic Language Practitioner (CALP)/Certified Academic Language Therapist (CALT) certification.
