Teacher - Dual Language [ASL] Deaf/Hard-of-Hearing (Art), Gr. K-12 (Long-Term Substitute)(SY26-27)

This is a long-term substitute position expected to start on 9/3/2026 and end on 12/6/2026. All substitute teachers are hired as per diem subs, even for long-term assignments, and begin at the per diem rate of pay. This position is located in an ASL/English dual language school, so candidates must be bilingual and bi-literate in ASL.

Reports to: Principal/Head of Schools

Responsibilities

• Set ambitious learning goals for all students, create cognitively demanding tasks, and model the belief that all students can master challenging material through effective effort.
• Assess students’ understanding regularly with ambitious learning goals in mind and take ownership of making necessary adjustments to instruction to reach goals despite setbacks.
• Demonstrate passion and optimism about students, content, and the teaching profession.
• Demonstrate mastery of and enthusiasm for the content area and the pedagogy it requires.
• Show understanding of how the subject matter applies in real-world settings and connects to other content areas and relevant standards.
• Convey content in creative and engaging ways that align to standards.
• Scaffold and differentiate instruction to enable all students to engage in complex thinking and rigorous academic work.
• Use instructional practices that challenge, motivate, and engage all students, facilitating equitable and active participation.
• Build a productive learning environment where every student participates and is valued.
• Actively create and maintain an environment where students’ diverse backgrounds, identities, strengths, and challenges are respected.
• Engage with families and build collaborative, respectful relationships in service of student learning.
• Regularly reflect on practice, seek and respond to feedback, and demonstrate self-awareness and commitment to continuous learning and development.
• Participate in and contribute to a collaborative adult learning community.

Requirements

• Hold a Bachelor’s degree.
• Hold a valid Massachusetts Teaching License in Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing (All Levels).
• Meet all state and federal guidelines to be fully licensed and Highly Qualified according to NCLB.
• Ability to meet the Standards of Effective Teaching established by Boston Public Schools.
• Current authorization to work in the United States by the first day of employment.

Qualifications (Preferred)

• Experience teaching in urban schools.
• Fluency in one of BPS' official languages: Spanish, Creole (Cape Verdean), Creole (Haitian), Chinese, Vietnamese, Portuguese, or Somali.
• Certification in Moderate Disabilities and/or English as a Second Language (at the appropriate grade level(s)).
