About the role
Position Type: Teacher (Exempt, Full-time; Monday–Friday). Reports to the Campus Principal. Term: 190 workdays; at-will.
Mission
Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.
Minimum Qualifications
- Hold at least a bachelor’s degree and present official transcripts showing degree awarded.
- Demonstrate competency in a core academic subject area.
- Believe fully in the mission and vision of Jubilee Academies.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill school curriculum requirements and show written evidence of preparation; prepare emergency lesson plan folder to cover two days of material.
- Present subject matter according to Texas Education Agency guidelines, board policies, and administrative regulations.
- Plan and use instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of student learning styles and needs.
- Conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities.
- Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for SPED students according to Individual Education Plans.
- Work with staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods per district requirements.
- Plan and supervise assignments of teacher aides and volunteers.
- Use technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process.
- Participate in extended-day and weekend school tutoring as required.
- Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits; teach self-discipline and responsibility.
- Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
- Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned; sponsor outside activities approved by the campus Assistant Director.
- Be a positive role model for students and support the school’s mission.
- Ensure good student discipline by maintaining regular attendance and punctuality.
- Create a positive classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for students’ physical, social, and emotional development.
- Maintain neat and orderly classroom; manage student behavior in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
- Use a discipline management plan that includes posted ground rules, a step-by-step reinforcement/consequence process, and a daily lesson agenda.
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Assist in selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
- Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, directors, and teachers.
- Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
- Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
- Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.
- Adhere to staff dress code; arrive at first morning class 15 minutes before the class bell.
- Maintain a good working relationship with Jubilee Academies staff and parents.
- Actively participate in two school committees and chair one committee.
- Keep the School Assistant Director informed of maintenance problems.
- Actively support and participate in fundraising activities of Jubilee Academies.
- Compile, maintain, and file all required reports, records, and documents.
- Stay abreast of new developments in education.
- May supervise assigned teacher aide(s) or volunteers.
- Convey the charter’s mission to the public and encourage support in accomplishing it.
- Illustrate understanding of charter and community needs and initiate activities to meet those needs.
- Demonstrate productive and efficient skills to raise community and parent involvement.
- Actively participate in student recruitment efforts.
- Encourage a constructive, thoughtful climate for learning; promote fairness for students and staff from all cultural backgrounds.
- Communicate with students and staff in a manner that promotes and sustains the Jubilee culture.
Working Conditions
- Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress.
- Physical Demands: Frequent and prolonged standing; stooping, bending, pulling and pushing required.
- Environmental Factors: Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment and supplies.
