About the Role

The assistant teacher plays an important role in the early childhood environment, working as part of a team to implement daily activities, observe and educate children, maintain organizational duties, and optimize the learning and play environment while meeting child care health and safety standards.

Responsibilities

• Assist the lead teacher with curriculum development (lesson plans) that are age-appropriate for the children in the classroom.
• Help implement activities on the lesson plan and follow the daily schedule.
• Observe and assess children’s behavior and progress alongside the lead teacher.
• Engage with children throughout the day and support their learning and play.
• Follow and implement health, safety, and sanitation procedures daily.
• Maintain regulatory compliance in the classroom.
• Complete 15 hours of professional development annually and apply learnings in the classroom.
• Update TB skin test every two years.
• Develop and complete a professional development plan with the director annually.
• Complete a staff evaluation with the director annually.
• Renew CPR/First Aid certification every two years (if required by the director).
• Complete the 1.5-hour Pediatric Abusive Head Trauma Training in the first year of hire.
• Complete 6 hours of Orientation within the first 90 days of hire.
• Follow and implement all center policies and procedures daily.

Requirements

• Proof of high school diploma, GED, or Commonwealth Child Care Credential (CCCC).
• Complete the National Background Check Program for Kentucky and any out-of-state background checks.
• Provide a TB skin test or health professional statement.
