Teacher

Location: 300 Delancey Street
Reports to: Early Childhood Director

About the role

This position serves as a teacher for a preschool classroom with a direct focus on children 3 to 4 years of age. The teacher will work collaboratively with one other teacher to ensure the successful operation of a classroom with a total of 15-18 children. The teacher also works with a team of other teachers and family members to implement the curriculum to achieve outcomes for children of all abilities.

Responsibilities

• Child Growth & Development: Uses knowledge of the principles of child growth and development to work with children, collaborate with related service areas, and communicate with internal and external stakeholders.
• Planning: Develop an individual plan for each child, including goal setting based on identified needs and prescriptions for objectives and activities to meet established child outcomes.
• Program Implementation: Implement daily lesson plans in response to children’s needs and interests, incorporating observations, anecdotal record keeping, knowledge of early childhood development, and the key experiences.
• Family Partnerships: Establish positive and productive relationships with families, focusing on a relationship of trust and rapport.
• Communication and Service Coordination: Share pertinent information with the family advocate, ensuring coordinated services to meet the needs of individual children and families. Participate in case conferences as appropriate.
• Record Keeping and Reporting: Gather and maintain individual, family and classroom data for documentation, on-going assessment, evaluation and recording keeping for successful individual and program planning.
• On-going Monitoring and Self-assessment: Analyze child outcomes on classroom basis twice yearly, consult with education coordinator and adjust curriculum planning and implementation as needed.

Requirements

• BA/BS, Early Childhood Education (ECE) preferred—MA/MS in Early Childhood Education preferred.
• Certified in Early Childhood Education, birth-2.
• Create and maintain an ASPIRE account.
• Basic computer literacy in email, word processing, and internet navigation.
• Complete DOE fingerprints, State Central Registry (SCR), medical clearance, Child Abuse certificate, three reference letters, and a resume before enrollment.
• Obtain CPR and first aid certification within the first year of employment.
• Chinese speaking preferred.

Pre-employment Requirements

• Successfully clear: NYS DOI Fingerprint Screening, NYS Central Registry Clearance, Sex Offender Registry Clearance, three reference checks, physical examination with updated TB test, Tdap, MMR, varicella (fees may apply).
• Meet all employee health requirements in Article 47 (DOHMH) and Head Start performance standards.
• Complete mandated reporter training certificate (every 2 years) and comply with agency policy regarding identification and reporting of child abuse and neglect.
• Obtain First Aid/CPR and Preventive Infectious Diseases certificate within the first year of employment.
• Provide proof of full COVID-19 vaccination and booster if hired.

Pay

Salary range: $63,653–$77,269, as per the union contract.

Schedule

Monday–Friday, either 8:00 am–3:30 pm or 10:30 am–6:00 pm. The schedule may vary due to program needs.
