About the role

The City of San Antonio's Pre-K 4 SA Department seeks qualified candidates to join our team. This position is funded by sales tax approved by San Antonio citizens and is funded for a limited time. It is an "unclassified" position with no disciplinary appeal rights to the Municipal Civil Service Commission and subject to at-will employment status.

Responsibilities

  • Implements early age curriculum that supports a language and numbers-rich classroom environment.
  • Plans and delivers engaging lessons according to early childhood students' needs.
  • Affirms developmental needs of children and incorporates individual students' learning, physical, social, and emotional needs.
  • Presents academic content through various instructional strategies, including large-group and small-group activities.
  • Develops and maintains a classroom environment conducive to effective learning.
  • Engages early childhood students in the learning process by interacting at eye level.
  • Assists teacher aides in providing an effective classroom program and addressing individual student needs.
  • Organizes age-appropriate indoor and outdoor activities to ensure student participation in learning activities.
  • Communicates regularly with parents through parent meetings, newsletters, electronic communication, and individual conferences.
  • Maintains high standards of student conduct using appropriate guidance skills.
  • Participates in all staff meetings and addresses the needs of the whole child, including emotional, academic, physical, social, and nutritional needs.
  • May be required to lift and position students with physical disabilities, control behavior through physical restraint, and assist non-ambulatory students.
  • Performs related duties as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in early childhood education or related field.
  • Valid teaching certificate with required endorsements to teach early childhood education from any State's Educator Certification Department.
  • Ability to obtain certification in Texas.
  • Valid Class 'C' Driver's License.

Qualifications

  • Two years of related full-time experience or three years of related higher education may be substituted for one year of higher education or one year of related higher education.
  • Applicants must pass pre-employment drug testing and background checks.
  • Must be able to perform all essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.

Skills

  • Knowledge of principles, practices, and methods of teaching.
  • Knowledge of curriculum and activities.
  • Knowledge of theory and practice of student learning styles.
  • Skilled in utilizing a personal computer and associated software.
  • Skilled in using classroom and instructional equipment.
  • Ability to actively engage with young children.
  • Ability to prepare lesson plans and organize a meaningful instructional program.
  • Ability to assist children with meals and snacks.
  • Ability to assist children with gross motor skills inside Center and in outdoor playgrounds.
  • Ability to conduct and participate in current or long-range planning projects.
  • Ability to interpret and apply Federal, State, and local policies, procedures, laws, and regulations.
  • Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships both internally and externally.
  • Ability to analyze information and evaluate results to choose the best solution and solve problems.
  • Ability to provide after-school care sessions.
  • Ability to perform all the essential functions of the position, with or without accommodations.
