General Summary
Performs a wide variety of age appropriate daily activities related to the care and development of young children ages 8 weeks to 5 years of age. Plans and conducts age-appropriate activities which meet the social, intellectual, physical and emotional needs of the children, in order to monitor/track children’s developmental readiness for school success.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for each child’s safety and health.
- Maintains classroom control within licensing and N.A.E.Y.C. guidelines.
- Plans and conducts a wide variety of daily activities that are age appropriate for the children in the classroom.
- Maintains records and check lists on each child’s growth and development using the Creative Curriculum Assessment tool.
- Conducts at least two parent conferences per school year on each child.
- Directs and supervises Assistant Teachers and any other adults in the classroom.
- Provides input to supervisor on Performance Evaluations for caregiver.
- Assists with communication to Assistant Teachers, parents as necessary.
- Contributes to the Child Care Center newsletter on a monthly basis.
- Completes requested assignments in a timely manner.
- Implements the curriculum that is consistent with the goals for children and promotes learning and development in each of the following areas: social, emotional, physical, language, and cognitive.
- All other duties as assigned within the scope and range of job responsibilities.
Requirements
- Education: Associate degree; Early Childhood Education Or Associate Degree in Child Development, Elementary Education, Child Psychology, or Elementary Special Education. In lieu of related degree may have an associate’s degree in another field of study and transcript must include twelve (12) credits in Early Childhood Education, elementary education, child development, and or early childhood special education.
- Required: One year experience working with children preschool age or younger in a group setting.
- Credential(s): DEED Certification within 60 days, if not already obtained. Heartsaver - Within 60 days, if not already obtained.
Qualifications
- Preferred Education: Bachelor Degree Early Childhood Education or bachelor's degree in child development, Elementary Education, Child Psychology, or Elementary Special Education.
- Preferred Experience: Two to four years working with preschool children in Center or school setting.
Skills
- Ability to work with children ages 8 weeks to 5 years of age.
- Knowledge of age-appropriate activities and curricula.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to maintain classroom control and ensure safety.
- Proficiency in using assessment tools and record-keeping systems.

SALARY RANGE: 18.73 - 28.09
