About the role
The Bancroft School is the leading regional provider of special education programs for children and youth with autism, intellectual and developmental disabilities, ages 3 to 21. For over 130 years, The Bancroft School has continued to innovate in instruction, therapeutic integration, behavior therapies, individualized programs, life and job skills training and preparation for transition and beyond.
Responsibilities
- Plans and implements classroom instruction, specializing within one or more areas of curriculum, to specifically meet the educational needs of students and to encourage the best possible student educational experience.
- Affirms abilities and capabilities of individual students; develops, organizes, and implements lesson plans and activities that are individual-specific, meet the learning needs of each student, encourage increased skills, and address specific IEP goals.
- Maintains and monitors existing IEPs to ensure that stated educational goals and objectives are appropriate, achievable, and continue to meet the educational needs of individual students.
- Recommends appropriate modifications to the existing IEPs.
- May conduct parent training in the classroom and at home.
- Utilizes the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis throughout observation, intervention, data collection, and assessment.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree and eligibility for formal certification such as N.J. Teacher of Disabilities (or of the Handicapped) required.
- Minimum of one year of teaching experience in special education preferred.
- Eligibility for Highly-Qualified Teacher status required.
- Knowledge of teaching methods and educational programs designed for students with learning, physical and behavior disabilities.
- Effective teaching and facilitation skills required.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills and presentation skills required.

$38.11 - $40.04/hr
