About the role
At Acceleration Academies, we transform the lives of students who have disengaged from traditional schooling by empowering them to earn their high school diploma tuition-free. Partnering with school districts nationwide, our dropout recovery and student re-engagement programs utilize cutting-edge technology and compassionate, impactful teaching.
Responsibilities
- Support new student enrollment through recruitment and engagement efforts
- Aid in the development of Personalized Learning Plans for students
- Serve as an advisor for assigned students, maintaining regular communication and monitoring attendance, academic progress, and overall wellness
- Plan and deliver content-area instruction in both individual and small group settings
- Maintain strong ownership of student progress toward course completion, credit accumulation, and graduation readiness goals using formative and summative assessments and academy data systems
- Analyze and use academic data to inform instruction and improve outcomes
- Provide remediation and enrichment opportunities to address learning gaps and accelerate success
- Participate in professional development, data meetings, and school/community events
- Collaborate with the student support team to develop personalized learning pathways, transition strategies, and incentive plans
- Represent the academy in community events and contribute to academy-wide initiatives
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary academy team including Student Advocates, Professional School Counselors, and academy leadership to provide coordinated wraparound support
- Perform other responsibilities as needed to support the academy’s mission
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s preferred
- Valid state teaching certification for grades 6–12 or 9–12 in one of the following content areas: Math, English/ELA, Social Studies, Special Education, or Science
- 2+ years of teaching experience (high school preferred)
- Strong communication, time management, instructional planning, and collaboration skills
- A deep commitment to helping at-risk youth succeed academically and personally
Qualifications
- Experience working in non-traditional or at-risk youth settings
- Bilingual (Spanish preferred)
- Familiarity with behavior intervention strategies and alternative education models
- Experience with competency-based learning, instructional coaching, or project-based education
- Demonstrated ability to use learning management systems (LMS), student information systems (SIS), and data dashboards to monitor student progress and inform instructional decisions
