Job Summary
The Teacher Associate (Sp Ed - Lv II/III) position at Southeast Polk Community School District supports the educational team in providing a safe and supportive learning environment for students with diverse needs.
Responsibilities
- Assists with small groups and/or individual student instruction and supervision.
- Maintains a safe and orderly learning environment in various school settings.
- Operates standard school equipment and completes clerical tasks as assigned.
- Communicates effectively with all staff and follows Kronos rules for clocking in and out.
- Reports to assigned centers as scheduled and implements daily activities.
- Maintains confidentiality and student privacy by only discussing student needs with relevant staff.
- Participates in home visits and assists with meal preparation and clean-up as needed.
- Completes annual Bloodborne Pathogens training and maintains current mandatory reporting training, first aid, and CPR certification.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Demonstrated ability to work with students with diverse needs.
- Experience working in an educational setting.
- Ability to obtain required training, including medication administration, first aid, and CPI training.
- Successful completion of physical, criminal background, and child abuse registry checks.
- 48 credit hours post-secondary education or Para educator certification from the Iowa Department of Education.
Physical Demands
- Standing throughout the work day.
- Lifting up to 50 pounds to waist level.
- Carrying equipment or supplies weighing up to 25 pounds for a distance of 50 feet.
- Changing positions quickly throughout the workday.
- Working with interruptions during a work shift.
- Working with students with different personalities, capabilities, and physical and mental limitations.
- Working in a noisy environment.
- Working in a broad range of temperatures, humidity, and other winter and summer environments.
- Working with body fluids such as urine and feces, blood, and nasal secretions.
- Working with sharp objects and chemicals with appropriate PPE.
Evaluation
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of Southeast Polk Board Policy.
