Key Responsibilities

  • Teaches pre-school children in a joyful, nurturing, safe, healthy individualized environment.
  • Provides varied experiences that help children develop socially, intellectually, physically, and emotionally.
  • Develops and implements developmentally-appropriate lesson plans and individualized activities.
  • Develops and implements Individual Education Plans (IEPs) for children with special needs.
  • Engages in record keeping activities such as daily observations of children and communication with parents.
  • Participates in Team meetings.
  • Attends meetings as necessary.
  • Maintains EEC requirements including child to staff ratios, classroom supervision, etc.
  • Operates the classroom/center on a day-to-day basis.
  • Provides classroom coverage in the absence of the Teacher or Lead Teacher.
  • Reports to the Teacher or Lead Teacher regarding daily implementation of classroom duties.
  • Reports to the Program Director for all matters relating to terms of employment and center operations.

About the Role

This position supports the mission of ABCD Head Start & Children's Services and promotes understanding of the program through communication with staff, families, and the community. Compliance with federal, state, and local laws, regulations, standards, and policies is essential, including reporting suspected child abuse and neglect to the Massachusetts Department of Children and Families.
