About the role
This position serves as a Special Education Teacher Assistant at 46 River Oaks Elementary during the 26-27 SY.
Essential Functions
- Hear the students in recitation, reading, and other curriculum tasks, guiding and helping them but not teaching them.
- Aid the teacher in providing an individualized and diagnostic approach to teaching.
- Support the individual needs of students while the teacher is working with other groups.
- Schedule and supervise small group activities.
- Set up displays and assist in creating interest corners under the teacher's direction.
- Assist absent students in completing their work.
- Operate classroom technology and assist mainstreamed special education students.
- Supervise students in hallways, restrooms, and playgrounds.
- Promote parental and community involvement in the instructional program.
- Perform assigned tasks by the teacher and under the direction of the teacher.
- Assist substitute teachers and perform record-keeping duties.
- Comply with confidentiality regulations and clear all parent communication through the classroom teacher.
- Be capable of physically restraining students in case of a crisis.
Additional Duties
- Participate in school district-approved/provided restraint training annually.
- Perform other related tasks as directed by the Superintendent of Education, Assistant Superintendent of Education, and Directors of Curriculum and Federal Programs.
Evaluation
The performance of the Special Education Teacher Assistant will be evaluated annually according to the School Board Policies and Procedures.
Terms of Employment
The position is 184 days annually with a salary in accordance with the Administrative Salary Schedule as approved by the Harrison County School District.
