Teacher Assistant - Special Education Preschool

About the role

The special education teacher assistant supports the implementation of student IEP's by assisting the teacher in five areas of service: instructional support, management and supervision support, personal support, assessment support and materials management.

Responsibilities

• Assists in the implementation of student IEP's
• Provides instructional support
• Supports management and supervision
• Offers personal support
• Supports assessment
• Manages and organizes materials

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent
• District inservice training (required after hiring)
• Basic knowledge of academic subjects
• Substitution or equivalent experience preferred
• Specific skills vary based on assignment, student needs, and IEP
• For Title One Schools: Equivalent of two years full-time education at an institution of higher education or the ability to pass a Utah State Office of Education approved Para-Professional Test

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent education and/or experience
• Basic knowledge of academic subjects
• Substitution or equivalent experience preferred
• The specific skills required of the assistant depend upon the assignment, the student's needs and IEP, and upon the established procedures of the supervising professional

• Ability to work with students with special needs
• Strong organizational and time management skills
• Knowledge of educational strategies and resources
