About the role
The special education teacher assistant supports the implementation of student IEPs by assisting the teacher in five areas: instructional support, management and supervision support, personal support, assessment support, and material management.
Responsibilities
- Assists in implementing student IEPs
- Provides instructional support
- Maintains classroom management and supervision
- Offers personal support to students
- Supports assessments and materials management
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- District in-service training (required after hiring)
- Basic knowledge of academic subjects
- Substitution or equivalent experience preferred
- Specific skills vary based on assignment, student needs, and IEP
- For Title One schools: Equivalent of two years full-time education at an institution of higher education or the ability to pass a Utah State Office of Education approved Para-Professional Test
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent education and/or experience
Skills
- Ability to work under general supervision
- Knowledge of academic subjects
- Experience with student IEPs
- Ability to assist with various classroom tasks
Benefits
- Salary Grade 8 - $22.03 per hour (Support Salary Table 2026-2027)
- Promotions result in a minimum 5% increase
Pay
- 3.9 hours per day / 174 days per year
