About the role

The special education teacher assistant supports the implementation of student IEPs by assisting the teacher in five areas: instructional support, management and supervision support, personal support, assessment support, and material management.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in implementing student IEPs
  • Provides instructional support
  • Maintains classroom management and supervision
  • Offers personal support to students
  • Supports assessments and materials management

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • District in-service training (required after hiring)
  • Basic knowledge of academic subjects
  • Substitution or equivalent experience preferred
  • Specific skills vary based on assignment, student needs, and IEP
  • For Title One schools: Equivalent of two years full-time education at an institution of higher education or the ability to pass a Utah State Office of Education approved Para-Professional Test

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent education and/or experience

Skills

  • Ability to work under general supervision
  • Knowledge of academic subjects
  • Experience with student IEPs
  • Ability to assist with various classroom tasks

Benefits

  • Salary Grade 8 - $22.03 per hour (Support Salary Table 2026-2027)
  • Promotions result in a minimum 5% increase

Pay

  • 3.9 hours per day / 174 days per year
  • $22.03 per hour (Support Salary Table 2026-2027)
