Teacher Assistant - Special Education

About the role

The special education teacher assistant supports the implementation of student IEP's by assisting the teacher in five areas of service: instructional support, management and supervision support, personal support, assessment support, and material management.

Responsibilities

• Assists in the implementation of student IEP's
• Provides instructional support
• Maintains classroom management and supervision
• Offers personal support to students
• Supports assessments and evaluations
• Manages and organizes educational materials

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent
• District in-service training (required after hiring)
• Basic knowledge of academic subjects
• Substitution or equivalent experience preferred
• Specific skills vary based on assignment, student needs, and IEP
• For Title One schools: Equivalent of two years (48 semester hours) full-time education at an institution of higher education, or the ability to pass a Utah State Office of Education approved Para-Professional Test

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent education and/or experience

Skills

• Ability to assist with various educational tasks
• Knowledge of academic subjects
• Experience with student IEP's

Benefits

• Salary Grade 7 - $20.98 per hour (Support Salary Table 2026-2027)
• Promotions result in a minimum 5% increase

Pay

• 3.9 hours per day / 174 days per year
• Salary Grade 7 - $20.98 per hour (Support Salary Table 2026-2027)
• Promotions result in a minimum 5% increase

Schedule

• 3.9 hours per day / 174 days per year

Benefits

• Medical procedures to include but not limited to gastrostomy tube feeding, catheterization and diapering of adult size students
