About the role

The special education teacher assistant supports the implementation of student IEP's by assisting the teacher in five areas of service: instructional support, management and supervision support, personal support, assessment support, and material management.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in the implementation of student IEPs
  • Provides instructional support to students
  • Maintains classroom management and supervision
  • Offers personal support to students
  • Supports assessments and evaluations
  • Manages and organizes educational materials

Qualifications/Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • District in-service training (required after hiring)
  • Basic knowledge of academic subjects
  • Substitution or equivalent experience preferred
  • Specific skills vary based on assignment, student needs, and IEP requirements
  • For Title One schools: Equivalent of two years full-time education at an institution of higher education or the ability to pass a Utah State Office of Education approved Para-Professional Test

Benefits

The position may require lifting, feeding programs, simple sign/signal communication, and medical procedures such as gastrostomy tube feeding, catheterization, and diapering of adult size students.

Pay

$22.03 per hour (Support Salary Table 2026-2027), with a minimum 5% increase upon promotion.

Schedule

5.9 hours per day / 174 days per year
