Teacher Assistant Internship

Duties and Responsibilities

• Become familiar with Department of Early Education and Care Group and School Age regulations.
• Become familiar with program policies and procedures.
• Supervise and ensure the safety and well-being of the children in their care at all times.
• Maintain a safe and clean classroom environment, ensuring the space is free from hazard at all times.
• Follow proper cleaning and sanitizing procedures to ensure a healthy environment, including but not limited to proper hand washing and cleaning/sanitizing practices.
• Aid the Classroom Teacher in implementing planned curriculum, arranging classroom environments, and decorating the classroom.
• Maintain equipment and child care property.
• Foster a warm, relaxed, and non-threatening atmosphere in the classroom.
• Interact with children throughout the day, modeling appropriate behaviors and expectations, including sitting and interacting with children during free time, structured time, and at meal times.
• Assist children to be self-reliant by modeling appropriate communication and personal hygiene (e.g., brushing teeth after snack).
• Use a positive approach to help guide children’s behavior constructively; using redirection, role modeling, planning for transitions, and setting developmentally appropriate expectations to encourage appropriate behavior and social skills. Report any special needs or problems of individual children or cases of suspected child abuse or neglect to the Teacher.
• Document any concerns or problems with the children.

Internship Requirements

• Must be at least 16 years of age.
• Enrolled in an EEC program at their host school - Interns will be under the direct supervision of a qualified Teacher at all times.
